Unique wedding venue with its own beach in Cornwall near Devon

Unusual fort wedding venue in cornwall with a private beach

Imagine... having your wedding in one of Cornwall's most romantic settings, overlooking the sea with a beach below. When you get married at Polhawn, the Fort and gardens will be exclusively yours to share with friends and family for a whole weekend or a midweek break. With breathtaking sea views all around, Polhawn Fort is Cornwall's most spectacular wedding venue.

You can get married amidst the splendour of our unique historic and romantic Napoleonic Hall, or outside in our Summer House overlooking our wide lawns and the sea beyond.

Polhawn Fort is an unusual and romantic wedding venue on the south coast of Cornwall in Whitsand Bay, near Mount Edgcumbe, round the corner from Plymouth, and just along the coast from Looe, Polperro, Fowey, Mevagissey and St Mawes and Falmouth. The Fort is set in the midst of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Rame Peninsula, overlooking the sea at Whitsand Bay, and the long distance South West Coast Path runs directly behind the grounds of the Fort. From Rame Head you can look across the entrance to Plymouth Sound towards Wembury and Newton Ferrers, past Burgh Island towards stylish Salcombe. This part of the south Devon coast continues past Start Point and eastward round to the famous port of Dartmouth.

This historic Grade II* listed Napoleonic Fort is one of 'Palmerston's Follies' and dates back to the 1860s. Today it serves as a wildly romantic wedding venue by the sea for couples seeking something unique and quite original for their special day. Coastal weddings at Polhawn, whether they are mid week or at the weekend, are spread over several days with the fort given over to exclusive use for that period. Exclusive use means there will be no one else there apart from you, your families and your guests. The fort can accommodate up to 20 guests and their children in luxury beds, and with the large lawns, the croquet set, the all-weather tennis court, the beach at Polhawn Cove and spectacular cliff top walks along one of the most beautiful stretches of the long distance South West Coast Path, there is plenty to keep everyone happy. And if you and your guests really want to push the boat out, Polhawn Whisper, our 47' ocean-going sailing yacht can be chartered to discover Cornish fishing villages, to explore the South Devon and South Hams coast, to go round the iconic Eddystone Lighthouse, and picnic aboard while moored in Whitsand Bay. Everyone can try their hand at steering the yacht and have a go on the ropes... Swallows and Amazons and sheer bliss.

Polhawn Fort has been nominated for several special wedding awards including Wedding Venue of the Year Award in 2008 and it was a finalist in the Westcountry Wedding Venue of the Year Award in 2009. This is hardly surprising when you see the civil ceremony choices: get married outside in the summerhouse on the lawns with the spectacular backdrop of the sea beyond or choose between the mighty Napoleonic Hall or the stunning Emperor Suite. Whatever you choose your wedding will be unique because your special day can be arranged exactly the way you want it to make it unforgettably yours.

Choose a banquet or buffet with your choice of caterers and table layout and a choice of eight fabulous bedrooms. For a wedding that is really special and tailored the way you want it in a wildly romantic location by the sea, Polhawn is your unique, magical wedding venue.

In addition to our traditional civil ceremony weddings, we have had such a wide range of unusual and unique ceremonies in the 1500 or so weddings we have held here. These usually take place directly after the legal marriage service, and as their participants inevitably feel that these are their real weddings, and call them that, we feel we can too: these weddings (strictly speaking ceremonies) include beach weddings, garden weddings, humanistic weddings, theme weddings, ethnic weddings, Jewish weddings, religious weddings, church weddings, unusual weddings, castle weddings, historic weddings, medieval weddings, anniversary weddings, gay weddings, civil partnership weddings, magical weddings, seaview weddings, seaside weddings, and lots more unconventional, unique and very special weddings that we can't remember...
